Recently I have been told that I don't have opinions on the "big issues" or that I simply don't care about them. This makes me draw a bit of a blank (hence perhaps the comment that I don't care) as I don't really know what these big issues are that I should have an opinion on in fact are.

I don't feel it is so much that I don't care about many of these issues, but more that I am indifferent to them. There are a few other reasons as to why I don't necessarily talk about how I feel about certain topics.

One of these reasons is simply that I was raised with the understanding that certain topics are simply not up for discussion at dinner parties and other social occassions. Religion and politics being the two at the forefront as they tend to get most people very hot under the collar very quickly. Flaring tempers do not make for an enjoyable evening with friends.

The other is that I unfortunately learnt that being bright and having views and thoughts that differ from the social-norm does not make one many friends. I thus learnt to keep my mouth shut on a wide variety of issues and still tend to babble on about largely inconsequintial items, rather than have in depth discussions about things that matter in the world at large or even just me personally.

When asked I will give my opinion provided I know/feel it is safe to do so. We all judge each other every day but there is a limit as to how far a person is willing to be judged before they would rather remain silent and not be.

So here on this blog I am going to put forth my thoughts and feelings on a list of topics I have compiled of what I am aware of as burning questions of society today as well as those that have been pointed out to me (based on what some friends have been asking me about.) This should be enlightening to others and will also be a good exercise for myself to better explore my own opinions and see where I stand in the world.
